MeadWestvaco to Buy Calmar

Saint-Gobain has agreed to sell Saint-Gobain Calmar to MeadWestvaco Corp. Calmar is a global manufacturer of plastic dispensing and spraying systems for the cosmetics, fragrance, personal care and pharmaceutical industries.

The transaction values Calmar at $745 million. Acquired by the Saint-Gobain Group in 1998, Calmar reported pro-forma sales of $403 million in 2005 and has approximately 2,700 employees based in 10 production sites.

The completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and should be effective before the end of June.

In other news, MeadWestvaco Packaging Systems’ Ajax, Ontario converting facility was honored with a Chairman’s Safety Award for its outstanding safety performance by the Paperboard Packaging Council. The facility logged 747,610 hours without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable incident.
